About Us

Epworth Sports and Exercise Medicine Group (ESEM) Richmond was established in 2008 as a new specialised medical centre committed to first class medical diagnostic care and healthcare advice for  individuals  of all ages and all levels of activity.

The centre has been purpose built within the Epworth Richmond medical precinct and has four highly experienced sports medicine practitioners as its Foundation members – Dr Andrew Daff, Dr Peter Larkins, Dr Bruce Reid and Dr Gary Zimmerman.

Our centre offers a complete medical service in musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and sports related injuries as well as exercise and fitness advice and health screening prior to exercise. We look after the very young athletes as well as many older individuals with arthritic joints and muscular conditions affecting their everyday lifestyle. We are here to help you with health promotion and to achieve your best whether you are 8 years of age or 88 years young.

We have custom designed consulting rooms and access to all diagnostic services including pathology, Xray, Ultrasound, CT scanning, Nuclear Medicine and MRI imaging.


All of our doctors have many years experience in the sports medicine world and are still active at the highest level of patient care. But you don’t need to be an athlete to use our services. We offer the same elite standard of assessment and management for all injuries regardless of your age or level of activity.

Our doctors have experience in caring for Australian athletes at Olympic, Commonwealth and World Cup level. We are also involved with several AFL clubs, the Australian Open Tennis, International Rules, Little Athletics Victoria, the Victorian Jockey Association and Racing Victoria.

We can arrange diagnostic imaging as required and over many years have developed an extensive network of Melbourne’s top specialists and other consultants to assist with your care if needed.
