Transform also conducts group hydrotherapy classes at the Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre and the Footscray Hydrotherapy Centre. These classes provide a social and relaxing environment to exercise under the guidance of one of our physiotherapists. Please click here to find out more about hydrotherapy at Transform.

Our physiotherapists have completed postgraduate training to specialise in treating spinal and other musculoskeletal injuries. They have experience working in the UK and US, but are focused toward a strong community-based health service. Both physiotherapists are fluent in Vietnamese.

Sports and Relaxation Massage (Myotherapy)

Myotherapy is the assessment and treatment of muscle pain and related conditions via the application of sports and relaxation massage. Myotherapists assess and manage dysfunction related to soft tissue structure, including muscles (myo), tendons, ligaments, and fascia. They treat conditions originating from abnormal muscle contraction ('tightness') or trigger points.

Conditions commonly treated by myotherapists include:

  • Headaches
  • Tennis elbow
  • Chronic back pain
  • Shoulder pain/impingement pains
  • Shin splints
  • Hand and finger paraesthesia
  • Foot pain
  • Ankle sprains

Podiatry

Podiatry relates to the prevention, assessment, and treatment of foot and ankle disorders. The term 'podiatrist' is derived from two Greek words meaning 'foot healer', an apt description of the podiatrist's role.

Podiatrists treat foot and ankle pathologies in people from many different client groups. Infants and children may need treatment for structural deformity or abnormalities of walking. Athletes will often seek treatment for lower limb sports injuries due to structural dysfunction or overuse related to their sport. Adults of all ages may require treatment to improve symptoms due to poor posture or foot and ankle deformities. Older people often seek treatment to aid mobility and reduce discomfort. People with systemic diseases may need treatment from a podiatrist for complications, which can occur in the lower limb, e.g. diabetes and arthritis.

Common conditions seen by podiatry include:

  • Ingrown toenails
  • Heel pain
  • Gait analysis
  • Biomechanical assessments
  • Fungal nail infections
  • Warts

Hydrotherapy

Transform provides an excellent hydrotherapy service at the Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre. It is an excellent way for clients with musculoskeletal injuries to build up strength, ease sore and stiff joints, and relieve muscle tension.

There are many health benefits to hydrotherapy:

  • Provides an anti-gravity environment, allowing for greater movement of joints with less strain
  • The properties of water can be utilised to make exercises easier or more difficult
  • Movement in water is a relaxing and pleasant experience for most people
  • The warm environment in a heated swimming pool (usually 33-37° C) can act to relieve muscle tension and alleviate aching joints
  • Hydrotherapy can provide aerobic exercise to improve cardiovascular fitness
  • The group setting provides social interaction and motivation to participate and improve

You do not have to know how to swim. The shallow pool depth, pool rails, and physiotherapist supervision will minimise any safety risks.

Transform provides private hydrotherapy group sessions on Tuesday and Friday mornings and Wednesday afternoons. These sessions last for one hour.

Transform will provided you with an individually tailored exercise program at the initial session. This program will be laminated to protect it from water damage. After a group warm-up, all participants will complete their unique program under the supervision of a physiotherapist. Clients generally attend two sessions per week for six to eight weeks. Once the program is completed, the treating land physiotherapist would reassess the client and progress as appropriate.

Hydrotherapy group sessions can be claimed under private health insurance, Workcover, and TAC, with the cost of the sessions usually completely compensated.

So why wait painfully while the solution is only a call away!
